The funding and income section of the KnowHow NonProfit pages offers a great accessible overview of issues like fundraising, commissioning and trading.

The Introduction to Fundraising pages from the Institute of Fundraising contain a huge amount of information, from tips on getting started to advice on data protection and raising money at events.

NCVO's Sustainable Funding Project has a number of downloadable tools. Use the list on the left of the page to access some more in depth information about social investment and contract readiness.

5 Steps to Funding Success from j4bcommunity is a neat and clear starter guide to the key things you need in order to access funding.

South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau has a range of downloadable documents, providing an overview of the sources of funding and finance available and some tools and evidence to help you craft your approach.

For information on social finance, Good finance has useful introductory information and a  profiler tool to assess if its right for you. Flip finance has guides and tools on social finance. 

 

Sources of funding – getting up to date information

The Directory of Social Change has an online database of funders to which you can subscribe, as does NCVO through Funding Central. Both offer a grants search service and regular email updates about what grants are available. If you're looking for infomation about grants, contracts and loans then start here.

Books and publications

The Directory of Social Change publish a range of guides to fundraising techniques. The Complete Fundraising Handbook by Nina Botting and Michael Norton is a good place to start.

Guides to grantmaking trusts available from the DSC. If you don’t want to or cannot purchase these you may find they’re available at the library or at your local infrastructure organisation.
