Before becoming a trustee or recruiting new board members, take a look at Charity Trustee: What's Involved from the Charity Commission.  Short and to the point, it helps new and existing trustees to understand their roles and provides links to lots of other useful guidance.

For more in-depth information, the Charity Commission's 'Essential Trustee'  is a vital guide for both new and existing trustees.  Clear and comprehensive, it covers everything you're likely to need. 

Running your board

The DIY Committee Guide is a highly recommended online resource from Northern Ireland.

This Governance Healthcheck from Wales Council for Voluntary Action will help you to review the effectiveness and skills of your board.

The Governance Pages have not been updated in a while but contain a lot of interesting case studies, including videos from trustees sharing their experiences.

Codes of Conduct for Trustees from the Small Charities Coalition gives guidance on how to develop a code to suit your own board.
